Major

Binyamin (Benji) Trakinski Z”L

Fell in battle: כג' תשרי תשפ"ד | 08.10.2023

Operations Officer in the “Sa’ar MiGolan” (7th) Armored Brigade, 32 years old at the
time of his death.
Son of Liz and Yisrael, and beloved older brother to Sharon.
Binyamin lived in Herzliya and studied anatomy and sports at “Tichon Hadash” High
School.
He was an outstanding student with a big heart, whose spirit of volunteering and
giving shone from a young age.
At age five, he donated his pocket money to help keep a learning center from
closing.
At six, he waited each morning by the classroom door to help a girl with disabilities
sit in the front row near the board.
At seven, he asked his father to take him to volunteer at a center for children with
cerebral palsy.

A devoted son and a loving, supportive brother, Benji brought his parents pride and
joy.
He respected them deeply and often sought their advice. His sister Sharon described
him as “a true big brother in every sense — someone I admired, who inspired me,
cared for me, and was always by my side.” They spent countless hours together,
sharing private jokes and laughter.

On Saturday, October 7th, Benji was at home in Herzliya with his partner, Rotem.
When the sirens began, he didn’t hesitate — he put on his uniform and drove north
to the Golan Heights, where his unit was stationed.
Upon realizing that heavy fighting was taking place in southern Israel, he
immediately headed south to the communities near Gaza.

Benji and his team were the first force to enter Kibbutz Be’eri to rescue the
wounded.
He fought bravely for many hours, engaging the enemy and saving dozens of
residents’ lives. In the evening, he was hit during an encounter with terrorists. Even
after being wounded, he continued to fight until his rifle jammed — then drew his
pistol and kept fighting until he was killed.
