Staff Sergeant

Omer Balva Z”L

Fell in battle: ה' חשוון תשפ"ד | 20.10.2024

Son of Sigal and Eyal, brother to Barak, Shachar, and Itay.

Omer grew up in Maryland, USA. At the age of 18, he made Aliyah to Israel to serve in the IDF and became a squad commander in the Golani Brigade’s 51st Battalion. He was a thoughtful and compassionate commander, known for his ability to influence and inspire those around him.

When the Iron Swords War broke out, Omer was traveling in the United States. Deeply devoted to the State of Israel, he immediately flew back home and rejoined the Alexandroni Brigade at the front lines. Just one week after returning from leave, he was killed in an operational mission on Israel’s northern border.

Omer was an exemplary son, a true friend, and a person of great integrity. He treated others with kindness, patience, and respect. A warrior at heart, an accomplished athlete, and a high achiever, he embodied the values of courage, humility, and love of life.

He cherished human dignity and equality, and in his own gentle way, he lived by compassion, decency, and love for every person he met and everything he did. He deeply believed in the inherent worth of all people and in Derech Eretz—respect and humanity—as guiding principles.

In his memory, Omer’s family and friends established the “Be Kind As Omer” Scholarship Fund, honoring his love for his homeland, his dedication to his unit, and the values that lit his path in life.
