Roi Nagari Z”L

Fell in battle: כ"ז סיוון תשפ"ד | 03.07.2024

He was 28 years old.

Son of Michal and Shmuelik, younger brother to Gal and older brother to Gaya.

Married to Shai.

Throughout his studies, Roi stood out for his intelligence and achievements. He was a social pillar, admired and loved by all. His teachers described him as “the tip of the spear,” and his family explained: “He was simply good at everything — a boy full of joy and positive energy, who spread kindness and love wherever he went. He excelled in everything he did and served as a role model for others.”

On the morning of October 7, when the sirens began, Roi and his wife Shai went into his sister’s nearby home. From there, he began organizing the operations center, and once he understood the magnitude of the attack, he called himself and ‘Team Nagari’ to reserve duty.

The operational company of the IDF Counter-Terror Unit (LOTAR) in the reserves was among the first forces to head to the Gaza Envelope. Upon arrival, the forces split up, and Roi continued with his team and another squad toward Kibbutz Be’eri. With professionalism, determination, and courage, he led his soldiers house by house through the “Kerem” neighborhood in the western part of the kibbutz, clearing terrorists and rescuing hostages.

“Roi was always first to engage,” testified his soldiers. “He led by example, was the first through every doorway and in every encounter, saved lives, and fought like a lion.”

Throughout the intense fighting, Roi maintained composure and clarity. Around 11 p.m., realizing that they were facing a fierce confrontation, he pushed his team back and charged forward, shielding his soldiers with his own body. In this act of heroism — through which he saved many lives – Roi gave his own.
